Thiamine is also called vitamin B1. Thiamine is essential for your body.

Humans can only store small amounts of it, so it must be supplied regularly.

Can I meet my daily needs through food?

The body can only store a limited amount of thiamine. Therefore, it needs a regular supply of thiamine.

Thiamine is particularly high in whole grain products such as wholemeal flour and oat flakes, in wheat germ, in seeds such as sunflower and pine nuts, in muscle meat, especially pork, and in legumes such as peanuts and peas.

Thiamine is sensitive to heat, air and water, so foods should be prepared carefully and watered as little as possible to avoid major losses.

The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) recommends a daily intake of 1.1 mg of thiamine. There is no maximum daily dose for thiamine.

The daily requirement of 1.1mg thiamine can be covered with the following foods:
6 tablespoons (60 g) oatmeal
20 g sunflower seeds
