L-tryptophan

L-tryptophan

  • L-tryptophan is an amino acid.
  • L-tryptophan serves as a precursor for the two hormones serotonin and melatonin.
  • Serotonin is the happiness hormone and melatonin is the sleep hormone.

What is L-tryptophan and why does the body need L-tryptophan

L-tryptophan is an amino acid in the human body. It is one of the essential amino acids, which means that it cannot be produced by the human body and must be obtained through food. Since the highest concentrations of L-tryptophan are found in protein-rich foods of animal origin, it is particularly difficult for vegetarians and vegans to get enough L-tryptophan from their diet.

L-tryptophan serves as a precursor for the two hormones serotonin and melatonin. Serotonin is considered the happiness hormone and ensures a good mood. Melatonin is the sleep hormone and ensures healthy and restful sleep.

Here you can find a selection of exciting studies on L-tryptophan:
-Birdsall TC. 5-Hydroxytryptophan: a clinically-effective serotonin precursor. Altern Med Rev. 1998 Aug;3(4):271-80. PMID: 9727088.9X.2011.00937.

- Dell'Osso L, Carmassi C, Mucci F, Marazziti D. Depression, Serotonin and Tryptophan. Curr Pharm Des. 2016;22(8):949-54. doi: 10.2174/1381612822666151214104826. PMID: 26654774.

Can I meet my daily needs through food?

The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) has set the maximum daily dose at 240 mg. This daily amount must not be exceeded.

Tryptophan is found in large quantities in beef, chicken, fish and eggs. But bananas, figs, cashews, dates and cocoa (or dark chocolate) are also rich in the amino acid.

FAQ

How many capsules do I get?

Your Indyvit contains 290 capsules, which we produce in our laboratory just for you, after we receive your order.

Can I save my mix or reorder it?

Sure! Your orders are saved in your user account. This way you always have an overview and can reorder. Of course you can also adjust a new order.

How and when should I take my indyvit?

Ideally, you should take your Indyvit with a meal, together with a glass of water. Instead of a meal, you can also have a glass of milk or orange juice or something similar. Taking it with a meal makes sense, as this way the ingredients can be better absorbed by your body.

If you configure a mix with several capsules per day, it is recommended that you distribute them throughout the day.

If you don't want to swallow capsules, you can also open the capsules and mix them with a non-hot food.
