Muscle cramps can be quite annoying and affect our everyday lives. But don't worry, with the right knowledge you can successfully combat these unpleasant cramps. Let's find out together why they occur and what you can do about them.

When and why do muscle cramps occur?
Muscle cramps can occur in various situations and their causes can be varied. The most common reasons for muscle cramps are:

Dehydration: If you don't drink enough fluids, your muscles can cramp more easily. So make sure you always drink enough water, especially after intense physical activity.

Electrolyte imbalance: Electrolytes such as potassium, sodium, calcium and magnesium play an important role in muscle contraction and relaxation. A deficiency of these minerals can lead to muscle cramps.

Overexertion: Intense sporting activities or unaccustomed physical exertion can overstrain the muscles and cause cramps.

Poor circulation: Insufficient blood supply to the muscles can cause them to cramp.

Nerve problems: Damage or irritation to nerves that control the muscles can trigger cramps.

What can you do about it?
There are some effective measures you can take to prevent or alleviate muscle cramps:

Drink enough: Make sure you drink enough water every day, especially if you sweat a lot or are physically active.

Stretching and warming up: Before you start exercising, warm up your muscles well and do stretching exercises after your workout to reduce muscle tension.

Electrolytes in balance: Make sure you eat a balanced diet that is rich in potassium, sodium, calcium and magnesium. You can find these electrolytes in various foods such as bananas, spinach, nuts and yoghurt.

Tailor-made supplements: Customized supplements can help you close certain nutrient gaps and address potential deficiencies. Depending on your personal needs, magnesium, potassium or calcium could play an important role in your customized supplement.

Why are certain nutrients crucial?
Magnesium: Magnesium contributes to electrolyte balance and normal muscle function. A deficiency of this mineral can increase muscle excitability and increase the risk of cramps. You can effectively prevent muscle cramps with a magnesium supplement tailored to your needs.

Potassium: Potassium is responsible for the transmission of nerve impulses to the muscles. It contributes to normal muscle function and normal functioning of the nervous system. You can almost cover your daily requirement of potassium with just one banana.

Calcium: Calcium contributes to normal energy metabolism and normal muscle function. Adequate calcium levels are therefore important to prevent muscle cramps.

Always remember that every body is unique and each person's needs may vary. With customized supplements that are specifically tailored to your body and your needs, you can take targeted action against muscle cramps and lead an active and pain-free life.
